Iron Blight Inventory and Manual Reload Guide
The grid is the difficulty
Iron Blight uses what the store page calls a diegetic grid-based inventory: items occupy physical space, space is limited, and deciding what to leave behind is presented as part of the horror rather than a menu chore. Nothing about that is unusual on its own — what makes it bite here is that it runs alongside a total absence of readouts.
The screenshot Ronesans Interactive published of the inventory shows the shape of it: a backpack, a grid of slots, and an item card describing the TT-33 in plain language rather than with numbers. Item information is written, not tabulated. You are reading a description, not comparing DPS.
There is no ammo counter. At all.
The store page states it directly: no health bars, no ammo counters, no intrusive menus, with every piece of information conveyed through your character and the world. In practice this means:
- You never see rounds remaining on screen.
- To know what is in a magazine, you check it manually, round by round.
- That check takes time, and time is the resource the game is actually charging you.
The reload itself is described as deliberate and step-by-step, which is the whole point — the store page frames each firefight as a test of nerve because the reload is not instant and not automatic.
What that means in a fight
Three practical consequences, all of which follow from mechanics the game documents rather than from guesswork:
- Top up between rooms, not in doorways. A partial magazine you have not checked is an unknown, and unknowns get resolved at the worst possible moment.
- The kick is your reload window. It stuns zombies and pushes groups back at no resource cost. Two achievements are built around it, which is the game endorsing it as a routine tool.
- A gibbed head does not need a second magazine. Bodies that stay down are the cheapest outcome available; see the enemy threat ranks for which enemies that works on.
Settings worth knowing about
Patch 1.01 lists two fixes that touch this directly. Iron Sight aiming mode settings are now saved correctly when changed in the Options menu, and the flashlight now turns itself back on after you use a tool, provided it was on beforehand. Both were quality-of-life problems that made the game feel more hostile than designed during launch week.
The same patch fixed cases where actions failed to hide the map and equipped tools when they should have, and a player suggestion thread asks for the last weapon to be re-equipped automatically after closing the map — a developer replied that they were noting the idea. Treat that as requested, not shipped.
What we cannot tell you
The number of inventory slots, the exact stack sizes, and the total gun count are not published anywhere official, and we will not estimate them from screenshots. The weapons list covers every weapon we can point to a source for, and says plainly where the list ends.
Thanks for the feedback!
